Are you longing to experience an open minded, open hearted spiritual community that honors the human journey? Welcome home.
On Sunday, May 1, 2022, the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Athens called Rev. Dr. M. Pippin Whitaker to be our new settled minister. After Rev. Pippin’s inspiring service, an overwhelming majority of the congregation voted in support of her call at the special meeting held following the service. Nearly 100 members were on hand to celebrate with Rev. Pippin and her family. Rev. Pippin starts her ministry at UUFA on August 1, 2022.
The UUFA Board of Trustees recently approved a simplified, user-friendly pandemic response phase chart and process for determining the safety precautions we will take for current Covid levels. We are currently in the LOW phase. We continue to meet both in-person and virtually (live-streamed) for worship. We continue to wear masks when we're indoors together. Our congregation has very high vaccination rates, and our sanctuary HVAC system has an excellent air-exchange rate. Babies and toddlers are welcome to stay in the service with their caregivers, and Religious Exploration for kids ages 4 through 11 takes place each week. Groups for Middle and High School youth are enthusiastically re-forming. A time of "Community and Conversation" offers all ages a chance to get to know each other over snacks after the service on our shaded patio.
The 2022 UUFA Annual Meeting will be held on Sunday, May 15, beginning at noon. Join us in the sanctuary or attend virtually.
To view Annual Meeting documents including a draft agenda, a slate of nominees for elected positions, and a copy of the proposed budget, visit the supporting documents folder.
Voting members have three options to vote:
a. in person in the sanctuary
b. electronic ballot--The electronic ballot will open at the start of the Annual Meeting and close 10 minutes after comments by the outgoing President begin.
c. absentee ballot--The absentee ballot needs to be received at UUFA by Friday, May 13.
There are lots of ways to enjoy fellowship in large groups or small, and ways for introverts to engage comfortably, too. Spending time with others outside of Sunday services is a vital aspect of UUFA for many individuals.

Our vision statement closes with the words, “we strive to transform our world.” We believe that community is key, and we yearn to build the Beloved Community that the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. spoke about. All our work is grounded in our values of social justice, and we engage in the difficult work of changing systemic problems even as we respond to the more immediate suffering in the world.
