Remembering Bill Horton

Dear UUFA Members and Friends,

Our Fellowship lost a bearer of the light, William “Bill” Henri Horton, last Wednesday, June 8, 2022. He passed peacefully with family around him, aware of the many hearts that were holding him. He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Peggy Horton, his four daughters, many grandchildren and great grands.

Bill was born in South Carolina on September 6, 1940. He pursued his early college studies in Wingate, North Carolina, where he met the love of his life, Peggy Anderson. Bill joined the Navy, married Peggy in San Diego, and later joined the Air Force. He was in the Air Force for eighteen years, and served a tour of duty in Vietnam.

After his military service Bill completed his college studies at UGA, and pursued a second career as a High School History and Social Science teacher in Madison, Georgia. He was a gentle influence on many lives, and countless students have kept up with him long past their graduation.

At Bill’s request there will be no service. Grateful for the love of the UU Fellowship, the family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the UUFA. Please write “Bill Horton” in the memo line of checks, or select that option in the online giving portal.

You may reach out to Peggy at her home at 280 Westwood Dr., Athens, 30606-1468.
Blessings and peace,
Rev. Lisa Romantum Schwartz
UUFA Interim Minister
