UUFA voted initially to be a Welcoming Congregation in 1996. We held three series of workshops on GLBTQ issues, using UUA materials, changed the language we were using in services and materials, and met all other standards of UUA for becoming an official Welcoming Congregation.

This designation of "Welcoming Congregation" affirms we welcome and respect all people, no matter whom one loves or what one's gender identity or expression is. Straight, Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer or Questioning people are invited to participate in all aspects of congregational life. UUFA participates in Gay Pride weekends, parades, and hosts occasional activities for the LGBTQ+ community in Athens. Click here for details on the national UUA effort.

UUFA participates in the Side with Love campaign, which supports ethical, respectful treatment of all people no matter what their country of origin, religion, customs, or language.  We advocate for equal treatment and respect  of all  people.
