Farewell Message from Rev. Lisa

Dear UUFA friends,

I’m writing this final, farewell to you as a letter rather than a column. I want you to know how much I’ve loved serving as your interim minister in the last two years. Though the pandemic made this era of ministerial transition different, to say the least, I’m so glad for the work we did together and the many ways we found to connect.

The month of July will be the final transition, in a way. I’ve cleared out the minister’s office, and soon it will be painted and made ready for Rev. Pippin. I’ll be on study leave for the first couple of weeks of July (as usual, with a too-large stack of books to get through) and then on vacation – and moving toTennessee – during the last half of the month.

The professional expectations of former ministers include me giving you the space you need to connect with your new minister, just as Rev. Alison did for me. It’s important for a departing minister to support a congregation in its process of establishing connection and trust with a new minister.

Since I’ll soon be living in another state we won’t run into each other. But ever-evolving electronic platforms expand the ways we might run into each other on the world-wide web. I’ve enjoyed connecting with some of you on Facebook (wow, y’all rock the Wordle game), but starting in July I’ll be “unfollowing” you so that I’m not tempted to comment on your posts or otherwise stay in touch.

I won’t be exchanging emails, texts, or phone calls with you, not because I don’t care, but because of my deep care for UUFA and its chance to build a relationship with Rev. Pippin.

Again, I’ve loved my time with you – the lessons learned, the collaborative and creative approach to challenges, the milestones reached – and I’ll always hold UUFA in the highest regard. I send you abundant blessings as I leave, and always.

Rev. Lisa
