At UUFA, we try not to ask for money too often. Each spring, we ask for your pledge to fund the annual budget. On occasion, we ask for special gifts as we are doing now. We want to retire our building loan that is due next year, freeing up money in our budget. We must reroof older parts of the roof, and we want to improve our sound systems so all can hear in the sanctuary and in the Fellowship Hall.
The last time we asked for special money was for the 2016 capital campaign, which allowed us to expand our facilities, grow our Fellowship, and advance our mission. We surprised our financial consultants and raised $1.3 million to expand, renovate, and decorate the beautiful building we enjoy today. Now, as we approach UUFA’s 70th Anniversary, let’s once again show our love for and commitment to our Fellowship by pledging to the 2024 Capital Campaign.

A Note from Rev. Pippin
While recent history shows our capacity to exceed the experts’ expectations, our 70-year history shows why. From our founding in 1954 to today, UUFA takes care of all in our community. The founders defied the odds to welcome both Unitarians and Universalists long before the 1961 U-U merger. They also planned for the needs of all ages and stages right from the beginning.
Since 1954, UUFA changed locations to welcome everyone and has grown pastoral care, music, youth, justice, and myriad other programs to meet evolving needs.
Today, UUFA is poised to continue our legacy of care. We’ve learned of people who cannot hear in worship or in the Fellowship Hall. We need a new roof for healthy, dry spaces. We need to pay off the loan to protect members’ programming and preserve UUFA for future generations.
My dad, my husband, my children, and I have made a significant contribution to this campaign because we believe in UUFA’s saving power to care for UUs now and long into the future.
For over 70 years, UUFA has cared for everyone in this community.
Let’s keep being the caring religious community that is our legacy!
Frequently Asked Questions
What do I do now to be a part of this capital campaign?
Please make a pledge before November 3 by filling out a pledge card, going to uuathensga.org/capital, or logging into Realm (>giving >pledge). As you consider how much to pledge, note that the amount you pledge can be paid in installments or as a lump sum between now and June 30, 2025.
How much should I pledge?
Any amount given by members and friends is needed and appreciated. The goal for this capital campaign would be reached if every member pledged $1766.
How is my pledge amount to this capital campaign to be paid?
You can pay your financial pledge by June 30, 2025, by cash, check, or credit card.
Why does UUFA have a balloon loan?
The 2016 Expanding Our Vision (EOV) building project provided for a mortgage of $500,000. Since lending institutions do not give churches mortgages, UUFA has a balloon loan instead.
What is the estimated balloon loan amount?
When the loan matures on August 10, 2025, the estimated amount of the balloon loan payoff is a little less than $409,000. Any amount not paid off by the due date will result in UUFA having to secure another balloon loan at a higher interest rate.
For what else will the capital campaign funds be used?
Parts of the UUFA roof need to be reroofed, and the acoustics in both the sanctuary and the Fellowship Hall need to be improved.
