Dear Members and Friends of UUFA,

After careful consideration for the health and well-being of Fellowship members and friends, as well as the larger community, Barb Schell (UUFA President), and I have determined that we must cancel all activities at the UU Fellowship of Athens for the next two weeks. This includes all small groups, book discussions, justice activities, rentals, committees, Sunday morning events, and more. Exceptions to these closings are the various support groups, such as AA, that may continue to meet here if they choose.

Because we know a great deal of meaning is found in the relationships you’ve built at the Fellowship, we intend to offer online opportunities for groups to meet from the comfort of their own home and computer. We know some people do not have computer or internet access, so we will be providing some printed materials for them. This is not an ideal way to be in community, but in the best interest of the community, we hope you understand these accommodations are necessary for the time being.

We do not wish to convey to you any sense of panic or anxiety over the spread of the coronavirus. We make these changes to do our part in reducing the number of potential infections and deaths. Our primary concern is for your continued health. We hope you will continue to heed CDC and other health experts who recommend limited contact with others and even self-isolation, especially for those who consider themselves elderly or who have other health concerns that might make them more susceptible to virus complications.

We’ll send a follow-up message to you before Sunday morning with information about how to access either a recorded video or a live-streamed service. We’re working out the details as I write this note to you.

Let’s all stay safe by following basic precautions of hand-washing and limited exposure to others, whether they appear healthy or not. We will get through this challenge by our love and willingness to prioritize the health of the entire community.

Blessings to you and your loved ones,

Rev. Alison Eskildsen and Barbara Schell, President

PS: Though the times are challenging, please don’t forget we are in the midst of our annual pledge drive. If you haven’t submitted a pledge for the upcoming year, please send it by email to Shaye Gambrell (uufa@uuathensga.org) or access your Realm account directly. We depend upon your continued financial support and know life will return to normal before long.
