What’s Up with the Board

President Vivian Preston Sellers called the November 9, 2021 meeting to order, asking that Board members join her in lighting their chalices created by Kelli McConnell. Moments of silence in memory of Kelli followed. As the meeting’s opening words, Marco Messori shared his thoughts on Kelli.

Safety and Security policy update nears completion

As our monthly Big Question discussion, we considered the revision of the Safety and Security policy and the Honor Our Children and Youth policy which lays out how to prevent child abuse and how to respond to reports of child abuse. We plan to accept the policies in December after final clarifications are made and the policies are shared with Kathy Mason and Lee Bergman.

Director of Religious Exploration position

We asked that Rev. Lisa post the DRE position announcement that she had drafted.

Settled Minister Search

As part of the process of preparing to call a settled minister, Bob Teskey and Barb Schell, members of the Settled Minister Search Committee’s Contract Negotiation Team, presented the updated New Ministerial Agreement. We voted to accept the agreement and thanked Bob, Barb and fellow team member Cynthia Call for their work.

The virtual stack of un-updated UUFA policies is getting shorter

We are continuing to review and update UUFA policies and procedures with the goal of completing the effort in January, 2022 as the Settled Minister Search gets underway.

Among the motions prepared by the Executive Committee:

► We voted to accept the Internal Review of UUFA Financial Operations conducted in October, 2021 by Jackie Pierson, Richard Rayburn, and Herb West and to implement its recommendations.

►We voted for the ongoing use of UUFA facilities as a voting precinct in all future Athens-Clarke County elections.

Plans for gradual reopening of the building

We thanked Clela Reed and Sarah Cook for their work with members of the Ministry Council, the Medical Advisory Panel, and staff members to update the UUFA Pandemic Response Phases. UUFA has now moved to Phase 2.

In the revised document up to 75 masked people can attend Sunday services with up to 10 masked people watching the service stream in the AWE Room. Members and friends will receive directions for reserving a seat at a Sunday service. To learn about other updates to the document, click on the link above.
