What a year it has been. What a challenging time to be apart when we needed one another most.
Fortunately, we have the opportunity this year to gather together at The Mountain Retreat and Learning Center October 1 to 3 for our biennial retreat, which was postponed from last year.
Every two years our congregation heads to The Mountain Retreat and Learning Centers for a retreat on top of beautiful Little Scaly Mountain near Highlands, North Carolina. The weekend will begin on Friday, October 1, with dinner at 7:00 p.m. and conclude after lunch on Sunday, October 3.
We will enjoy good food, much fun, and wonderful fellowship with fellow members and friends of our congregation. Folks attending may participate in worship services, study and reflection, hikes, dancing, singing and other musical opportunities, making crafts, quiet time, and various other forms of play. You will have the opportunity to enjoy mornings on Meditation Rock and spectacular views from the top of the Tower. The UUFA choir will spend part of Saturday in a choir retreat as they did three years ago.
The Mountain has instituted special COVID protocols that are current as of April 2021. These policies may evolve as we get closer to the retreat dates. At present, all guests will be asked to fill out a liability waiver upon arrival. Guests traveling without a friend or partner that they are comfortable being housed with are encouraged to book a single occupancy, private room.
Costs are as follows: $210 per person (double occupancy) which includes lodging and meals. If you register prior to August 31, you’ll receive $20 off the regular adult price. There’s a $70 additional charge for single occupancy. Usually, there is a charge for children and youth, but the Fellowship has chosen to cover their costs to support the participation of families. Commuters who come for the day on Saturday will be charged $50, which includes all meals. More information about scholarships will be available soon.

Ready to register? This link will take you to online registration. If you’d prefer not to register online, you may call Rachel Kinback at 828-526-5838 to do that over the phone. (She’s usually in the office Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.) Other folks can take your registration information as well. The Mountain no longer offers paper registration forms.
As time goes on, more information as to workshops, hikes, and other happenings during the weekend for children, youth and families will be available.
We had a full house at The Mountain in 2018, and we’re hoping for the same this year.
Please let Heather Jensen know if you have ideas for things to offer during the weekend or want to assist the planning team.
