UPDATED: Due to the high numbers of COVID-19 currently in Athens and surrounding areas, attendance at Rev. Alison’s final service will be limited to service participants only.
UUFA AWE-fest: A Celebration of Rev. Alison’s Ministry
July 13-19, 2020
In just a few weeks, we will be honoring Rev. Alison as she retires from full-time ministry and from her 10 years of service to our Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Athens. In light of the constraints of our COVID19 pandemic, the committee working on this celebration has arranged a variety of ways that you can say farewell to Rev. Alison. Please consider your own health situation, current Athens conditions, as well as the unavoidable risks associated with any in-person meetings as you decide how you would like to participate.
UPDATED: Small group farewells: An additional meeting has been scheduled at 10 a.m. Friday (July 17) morning on the UUFA Patio. The meeting will be limited to 12 folks and will meet for an hour. All individuals attending in-person meetings will be required to wear masks and to maintain physical distancing. Contact Rev. Alison directly to schedule (email@example.com, 706-244-9449).
You can also opt to meet with Alison during the Zoom UUFA Friday happy hour, which does not require advance sign up. Find that link on the Stay Connected page of UUFA’s website.
On Sunday, July 19, at 10:30 a.m., Rev. Alison will lead her farewell service in the UUFA sanctuary. As part of this service, leaders will share words of appreciation and farewell gifts, This service and the ceremony following will be live-streamed through both the UUFA website and UUFA’s FaceBook page, as we’ve been doing since mid-March.
Drive-by & socks gifts: On Sunday, July 19, at 4:45 p.m., we will gather at St. Stephen’s Anglican Catholic Church parking lot to form a parade of cars. The drive-by will start at 5 p.m. Anyone is welcome to come by car and participate in this drive-by to say farewell to Rev. Alison. Bring some funny socks (sized large as she wears a size 9-1/2 shoe). In case you don’t know, funny socks are one of Rev. Alison’s favorite things to wear. We are calling this “Socks of Love.” To help your shopping, look online at one of these places.
You will stay in your car but be able to say a quick word to Alison and then toss your socks for her in the receptacle! That way, she will have socks to remind her of us for many years!
