June 25: Interfaith Sanctuary Coalition–A Good Film, Fine Fellowship, and Pizza!

The Interfaith Sanctuary Coalition invites you to watch how one small community is standing up to the militarization of their border town. Come to ISC member First Baptist, 355 Pulaski Street (plenty of free parking) at 6:30 p.m. to watch this award winning film, discuss what ISC can do to support Families in Crisis Due to Deportation, and become agents of change in our own community. Please RSVP to Nancy MacNair (ncmacnair@gmail.com) so we can order enough pizza!
Undeterred is a documentary about community resistance in the rural border town of Arivaca, Arizona. Since NAFTA, 9/11 and the Obama and Trump administrations, border residents have been on the front-lines of the humanitarian crisis caused by increased border enforcement build up. Undeterred is an intimate and unique portrait of how residents in a small rural community, caught in the cross-hairs of global geo-political forces, have mobilized to demand our rights and to provide aid to injured, oft times dying people funneled across a wilderness desert. The film was made by Eva Lewis, a resident of Arivaca and long time member of People Helping People in the Border Zone (PHP). Undeterred was created in close collaboration with the Arivaca community and members of PHP. The film has won multiple awards.  http://undeterredfilm.org.

The Interfaith Sanctuary Coalition, comprised of members of some 15+ faith communities serving the Athens area, is dedicated to offering hospitality, safety, and opportunities for all immigrants, regardless of status, to participate fully in our shared community.

This group traditionally meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month.
