For over 25 years, the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Athens has been in partnership with the Unitarian Church in Okland, Romania. Through this relationship, friendships have been cultivated on both sides and a greater understanding by the United States congregation has developed into our Unitarian roots. The ministers have visited each other, groups of youth from Okland have come to the US, and pilgrims have gone from the US to Romania.
So, where do we want to go in our next 25 years? The UUFA’s Partner Church Team would like to deepen engagement and revitalize our relationship with the Okland church and community. To do so, we have invited the Reverend Roger Bertschausen, Executive Director of the Unitarian Universalist Partner Church Council, to help guide us through a ReFresh Weekend.
The key component of the weekend will be a workshop on Saturday, March 30th from 10 – 2:30. At this workshop, we will explore what it means to be partners with someone across the globe. We will look at cross-cultural sensitivities. What does it mean to be a good host? How can we be a good guest? How can we celebrate our relationships and moving to a relationship grounded in parity? We will look at possible collaborative activities with the Transylvanian Unitarians such as a possible choir trip, a 2020 International Unitarian Youth Camp, and other exciting possibilities.
