Justice Cluster Recognizes Our Daily Bread Volunteers

Hunger is a real and persistent problem for many in the Athens area. Our Daily Bread is a non-profit organization which provides breakfast and lunch meals to those in need each weekday. Our Daily Bread is part of Action Ministries, and meals are prepared and served at Athens First Baptist Church.

As part of UUFA’s Justice work, a group from our fellowship has been volunteering with Our Daily Bread for almost 23 years! Will Sheahan, Dan Everett, Kate Blane and Lois Shenkel were some of the earliest volunteers with ODB, and they are still helping to prepare meals (done at UUFA) to serve 150-200 people each third Friday of the month. Will and Lois did most of the cooking for the first 14 years. Will and Kate shop for the food from the Athens Area Food Bank, and Kate makes it a priority to buy fresh produce as part of her commitment to food responsibility and ethical eating.

There have been many members and friends of UUFA serving Our Daily Bread over the years, including our own Reverend Alison, and today we recognize those who have served during the past year. We would like to thank the following volunteers for their service with Our Daily Bread.
