SUMMARY:OFF-SITE — Rally for Justice Reform
DESCRIPTION:On Tuesday, April 11, organizations from around the Athens area are coming together to Rally for Justice Reform. We the People recently voted in favor of initiatives such as restorative justice, ending cash bail, and sensible drug policy. But, bills recently passed by the Georgia legislature would block those progressive reforms in our community.\nThe Athens Anti-Discrimination Movement, Indivisible Georgia District 10, Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Athens and the Economic Justice Coalition have come together for a non-partisan “Rally for Justice Reform” that will:\n● Show that we support Justice Reform practices for adults and juveniles, such as Diversion Courts, Ending Cash Bail and Restorative Justice practices as opposed to the overcriminalization of Black youth.\n● Counter Georgia legislative bills, like SB 92, that treat the District Attorney’s office differently than other elected offices in the state\n● Assure local voters have the freedom to adopt policies that meet community needs — without interference from the Georgia legislature.\nJoin us at Athens City Hall as we rally for cashless bail, sensible drug policy, reproductive rights, diversion courts, restorative justice and much more. Speakers will include Shane Sims of People Living in Recovery, Emma Jones from Moms Demand Action, District 3 Commissioner Tiffany Taylor, Jeremy Sharp from Students for Sensible Drug Policy (SSDP), and Mikaela Warner from UGA United Campus Workers (UCW-UGA).  Rev. Dr. Pippin Whitaker, UUFA’s minister, will also speak.\n
