Acting Pianist/Accompanist for UUFA, Part Time

Job Summary:

Part-time (approx. 10 hours per week) Acting Pianist/Accompanist to play for choirs, house bands, small groups, and provide additional liturgical music for a medium-sized church with a vibrant music program. UUFA values diverse musical styles (classical, jazz, gospel, hymnody, etc). Candidate must work cooperatively with Music Director, Minister, and worship leaders to select and create music that enhances the meaning and mood of the services and contributes to the total music ministry of the congregation.

Job Duties:

Wednesday Choir Rehearsal, 7:15 - 8:45 pm
Practice hymns and anthems with JUUbilation Singers and Chalice Choir
Sunday Worship Service, 10:15 am - 12:15 pm
Provide prelude, offertory, postlude and any other service music as needed; accompany choir and congregational hymns

Communicate weekly with Music Director and/or service leaders to coordinate and select service music.

Submit titles and composers of prelude, offertory, and postlude to the Office Administrator by Thursday morning for inclusion in the order of service.

Maintain regular e-mail communication with Sunday Service Committee and Adult Choir through participation in listservs.

Occasionally attend a monthly Sunday Service Committee meeting

Education, Experience, and Skills Required:

Ability to play piano in many styles of music to the satisfaction of the Sunday Service Committee and Music Director

Ability to play a Lowrey MX2 organ a plus

Willingness to take direction from and creatively collaborate with Music Director

Dependable work hours and job performance, good interpersonal skills, and ability to work well with teams

Compatibility with the mission, vision, and goals of UUFA and its music program

Ability to communicate well in English; additional languages a plus

Compensation and Benefits:

$150 per week

The Acting Pianist/Accompanist may take two paid Wednesdays and two paid Sundays off during this time period (see below). This leave is to be used for personal or sick leave. Any additional unpaid leave must be approved by the Music Director. Unused leave cannot be used the following year nor will there be additional payment made for any unused leave.

If a family does not have a special or specific musician, the Acting Pianist/Accompanist receives first refusal rights to play for a memorial service or wedding held at UUFA. Fees for these services must be negotiated directly with the Acting Pianist/Accompanist and the family.

Supervisor:

Reports to the Music Director, with oversight by the Minister who is Chief of Staff

This Acting position will be filled as soon as an appropriate candidate is found. The end date for this position is preferably July 31st, but an earlier departure is negotiable. Once hired, the Acting Pianist/Accompanist is eligible to apply for the 11-month regular part-time position to begin August 1st.

Bookkeeper for UUFA, Part Time

Job Summary:

Part-time bookkeeper for a medium-sized church, approximately 10 hours per week

Job Duties:

Receives and pays accounts payable invoices in accordance with policies set by the Board

Updates and maintains church accounts in QuickBooks software and generates reports as requested by the Treasurer

Handles expense reimbursements for staff and congregational volunteers

Handles member pledge payments, manages records, prepares giving statements

Deposits accounts receivables into UUFA bank accounts

Handles UUFA payroll and generates W-2 statements for employees

Performs other financial needs as assigned by the Minister or Treasurer

Work hours flexible but must include regular meetings with Treasurer and/or Minister, plus occasional Sunday mornings

Education, Experience, and Skills Required:

Minimum two years of accounting or bookkeeping experience (non-profit preferred) including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger and financial reports

An Associate degree in accounting from an accredited educational institution desired

Ability to perform several tasks concurrently with ease and professionalism
Demonstrated ability to use QuickBooks accounting software, plus Excel and Word

Knowledge of regulatory requirements of processing payroll accounting transactions and payroll returns

Ability to speak, write and generally communicate well in English

Dependable work hours and job performance, commitment to accuracy, good interpersonal skills, and ability to work well with teams

Ability to keep financial information about church members in strict confidence

Hiring dependent upon a successful complete background check

Compensation:

$15 per hour, averaging ten hours per week

Supervisor:

Reports to the Minister as Chief of Staff, with operational oversight by the Treasurer
